CONFORMITY: The Walking Scene from Dead Poets Society

The video from Just for Laughs above
Reminds me of the scene from Dead Poet's Society
Where the boys were told to walk around the courtyard
As they do, they eventually begin walking in unison

CONFORMITY
It is important to be our authentic selves
Always Questioning ALL Authority
Always Questioning the direction of the herd
And also most importantly
BEing AWARE and MINDFUL
Question all the ways you conform
Some conformity is a good thing
It's safer to stop at a red light
But be vigilant
Perhaps we sometimes conform too much
Even if we are conforming to the nonconformists' role
Which is usually conforming to the opposite
Direction the conformists are moving
Which is still Conforming
We are still being led by others
If conforming to the desires of others
Is getting in the way of you being your authentic self
Look at those things and see
Are you conforming because of true safety concerns
Or
Are you not being you because of fear of what others think
If that's the case - think that through for yourself
It is important for you to be the true you
Probably cause some friction
Could lose you some friends
But hey
True Friends stay with you no matter what
And being the true you
Gonna bring some new Friends knocking on your door
So
Be Aware - Be Mindful - Be YOU!

Here's the 2 minute clip from Dead Poet's Society

That was a good movie. This is a great clip. I am often guilty of "conforming." It often seems natural to do this, but you make a very good point: "Are you conforming because of true safety concerns Or Are you not being you because of fear of what others think"

As hard as it is sometimes, I have to be true to myself.

Thank you for this perfectly illustrated message!
