Welcome my Friend,

Happy Thor's Day

I am so glad you are here with me today
I want to thank you for letting me vent yesterday
I am not going to apologize for being so indecisive
Because it's a part of my creative process
I don't like that you have to endure the confusion
I wish my process was neater and better behaved
I'm not able to plan things out in advance so much
I just have to go and see what happens
:  )

All parties in my head have met
And have concluded their summit

Here is their decision

There was no summit in my head
We all met at McDonald's and talked it out)

Remember the Mr. Mister song, Broken Wings, that I posted on Tuesday. In that post, I mentioned that The Beatles also used the line, "take these broken wings and learn to fly" in their song, Blackbird. In this video, Joey Alexander takes The Beatles song and makes it his own by performing his Jazz interpretation of the song.

Welcome Friends,

Happy Hump Day (Already!!)

I am so glad you've chosen to visit me here
I'll be honest
I don't know if I can do a Safe-for-Work blog
I'm not giving up yet
I just wanted to be honest about my feelings
It helps me think to tell others what I am feeling

I love the Good Stuff I am sharing here
But Today at this moment
I really don't like having the constraints
Of what I can and what I can't post here
I know
These constraints are my own doing
Based on society's line of demarcation
Between Safe-for-Work (SFW) and Adult Content (AC of NSFW)
Most of the stuff I post is SFW
But there are occasions when a photograph of
A Naked Man or Woman, frontal nude,
Praying to the Heavens
Communing with Nature, 
Dancing in Joy
Is the perfect symbol of what I want to express
These are important and potent spiritual symbols to me
but
Showing "real-life human" genitals is where the line is drawn
I know
It is what it is - I just have to accept that
I just find it frustrating at the moment

Please don't worry about me or my blogs
I just wanted to share 
what I am thinking and feeling at this moment in time
I may figure it out tomorrow and I'll do that
This is just me yakking out loud
 I usually talk about what frustrates me to my Friends
It helps me figure things out
So
We shall see
I will continue to post here for the rest of this week at least

One thing I'm pretty sure of is this:
Most of you who followed me here
Won't mind going back to AOMMD

The ART of MUSIC VIDEO EDITING

I've done a lot of music video editing in my lifetime. It is TEDIOUS WORK! Long hours of going through videos to select clips that you feel will fit your story. Then you look at the different video clips over and over - Making decisions as to which clip to place at which moment in the music - getting the timing just right - like when the music explodes, a flower must open or a person must jump up on the precise beat. You are constantly  feeling your way through the music and video to get just the right emotional impact you are striving to evoke. Phew!

For me, I found it arduous work. I also found it to be most satisfying when it was all done and I could experience the art I had created. It is the type of project I never want to start, but once I start, I become completely absorbed and obsessed in the creative process and will not stop until it is complete. 

I don't do major projects very much these days but I sure can appreciate good music video editing when I see it and Letizia is a true artist. I am most impressed by the artistry of Letizia. You can feel the love and passion she has for making the world a better place by creating such moving and life-affirming music videos. Having been there done that, I know and can appreciate the time and energy (the blood, sweat and tears) she puts into her work. She is phenomenal. Just look at the number of videos she had to go through and find little scenes to cut and use in just this music video:
And adding to all this, she also added sound effects on top of everything else. Phew!
Here's the Story

Letizia's Story for this Music Video:

"The main character here is a writer. We see her take up the pen and begin writing. At the beginning of the video the writer presents to us the characters of the story: a woman and a man. The two start a love dance accompanied by the music of a small orchestra. Eventually, the musicians and the instruments become protagonists. While the story is being written, it also composes a musical score. The love story that at first seems to involve only the two dancers will blossom and will be heard around the world. Each element, each musician, each animal and each dancer will be affected by this energy and will all join together in the dance and orchestra to become The Universe Rhapsody."

MUSIC: "Broken Wings" by Mr. Mister

The song "Broken Wings", by Mr. Mister, was a US No. 1 and worldwide Top 10 hit. It was inspired by the novel, Broken Wings, by one of my most beloved and inspirational writers, Kahlil Gibran. The line, "Take these broken wings and learn to fly" is the main line of lyrics in the song. A very similar line also appears in The Beatles song, "Blackbird," as well. Paul McCartney and John Lennon both were influenced by the work of Kahlil Gibran as were Mr. Mister.

"Gibran's book, Broken Wings, is a poetic novel first published in Arabic in 1912. It is a tragic love story, set in turn-of-the-century Beirut. A young woman, Selma Karamy, is betrothed to a prominent religious man's nephew. The protagonist (a young man that Gibran most likely modeled after himself) falls in love with Selma. They begin to meet in secret, however they are discovered, and Selma is forbidden to leave her house, breaking their hopes and hearts. The book highlights many of the social issues of the time in the Eastern Mediterranean, including religious corruption, the rights of women (or rather the lack thereof), and the weighing up of wealth over happiness." Here is a quote from the book of the Lover's final farewell:

“We stood up and bade each other farewell, but love and despair stood between us like two ghosts, one stretching his wings with his fingers over our throats, one weeping and the other laughing hideously. As I took Selma's hand and put it to my lips, she came close to me and placed a kiss on my forehead, then dropped on the wooden bench. She shut her eyes and whispered softly, "Oh, Lord God, have mercy on me and mend my broken wings!” (~Kahlil Gibran, Broken Wings)

The theme of the book is echoed in the song: picking up the pieces of your life and moving on. In the song there is a note of heartbreak as the singer is asking his beloved to "take these broken wings and learn to fly again - learn to live so free.", hoping that they will reunite with one another. 

The video for Mr. Mister's "Broken Wings" is also very beautifully made. You will notice the hawk plays an important symbol in the video. I see it as the singer's heart or animal spirit guide - the singer has to follow his heart rather than the road map. Other major symbols are the church, the tango dancers, the desert, the map, and the ocean.

CONFORMITY: The Walking Scene from Dead Poets Society

Reminds me of the scene from Dead Poet's Society
Where the boys were told to walk around the courtyard
As they do, they eventually begin walking in unison

CONFORMITY
It is important to be our authentic selves
Always Questioning ALL Authority
Always Questioning the direction of the herd
And also most importantly 
BEing AWARE and MINDFUL
Question all the ways you conform
Some conformity is a good thing
It's safer to stop at a red light
But be vigilant
Perhaps we sometimes conform too much
Even if we are conforming to the nonconformists' role

Direction the conformists are moving
Which is still Conforming
We are still being led by others
If conforming to the desires of others
Is getting in the way of you being your authentic self
Look at those things and see 
Are you conforming because of true safety concerns
Or
Are you not being you because of fear of what others think
If that's the case - think that through for yourself
It is important for you to be the true you
Probably cause some friction
Could lose you some friends
But hey
True Friends stay with you no matter what
And being the true you
Gonna bring some new Friends knocking on your door
